Many thanks to Rabbit Stop for providing the supplies for our “Rabbit Grooming Kits”. Although The Rabbit Haven has no physical shelter location, our volunteers provide an extensive foster network, and we collaborate with local shelters, rescuing rabbits that face euthanasia due to overcrowding or other conditions such as medical needs that make the bunny unsuitable for adoptions from a shelter. |
As rabbit people know, rabbits are natural groomers, and typically fastidious in their appearance. Sadly, many of the rabbits come into shelters dirty, with matted fur and long nails. The grooming kits provided by Rabbit Stop allow volunteers to tend to these incoming rabbits. We call it “fluffing up!” Shelter rabbits often need nail trims, brushing, and dematting their fur to get them ready for evaluations. Sometimes matted fur hides more serious conditions such as skin mites. During these “fluffing up” sessions, unusual conditions that require more experienced or even veterinary attention are identified so that appropriate care is quickly provided. As you can imagine, the rabbit clearly has a much higher chance of adoption after being groomed, both from its improved physical appearance, and the loving attention and socialization it gets during its “bunny pampering” experience. |
We have adoption shows 3 times a month at local venues, typically showing 15-20 adorable bunnies looking for permanent and loving homes. Prior to the shows, the grooming kits are working overtime! In February, we set a record of 33 adoptions for the month! We’re sure part of it can be attributed to having all the buns looking beautiful, thanks to good grooming! |

| The Rabbit Haven - Bring Some Bunny into Your Heart and Home |
Although our request asked for 10 sets of supplies, we’ve been able to put all 12 sets to good use. We’ve distributed them to shelters throughout our wide geographical network (we cover four counties), major foster sites, and to our key volunteer groomers for use at adoption shows. At each adoption show, we offer free community bunny nail trims and assistance with grooming. This brings in at least 6-8 rabbits at every event.
We were lucky enough to get tote bags donated by For Other Living Things – a great store in Sunnyvale, CA that hosts one of our rabbit adoption shows each month. These totes keep all the supplies together in one handy location – some of the shelters leave them on the door handle of their rabbit rooms for ready access.
We include the Rabbit Stop brochures in our adoption packets, and have them available for general distribution at the shows. We truly appreciate the generous donation of these supplies to The Rabbit Haven, and even more importantly, Rabbit Stop / Ferret Depot’s support to the non-profit animal welfare community at large. You really do help all of our organizations make a difference, throughout the country. And especially on behalf of all the beautifully groomed bunnies in California, thank you so much!!!
