Feisty Ferret Home 06/26/2009 - by G Hindsman from Princess Anne, MD US
Price is ok, but!!!!! the fact that there is only one door on each level and it is only half the cage wide, makes it almost impossible to remove the trays to clean them. No matter how you do it, you dump litter or worse all over the floor. We got one in a rescue situation and within a week took it apart, put it in the attic and bought another Ferret Nation (we have three). It is a nice roomy home, but if you have more than one or two ferrets, you probably will not have time or inclination to wrestle with the trays.
You Won't Find A Cage Better Than The Feisty For A Comparable Price! 07/29/2008 - by Kristine Potter from Sheboygan, WI US
I got this cage about one year ago. The Ferret Feisty Home became my third cage in the house (now I have a fourth) for my two ferrets. It was and still is my favorite of all the cages. I have to admit that if I had the money I would replace the Feisty with a Ferret Nation for a few reasons; however, I agree with most other reviewers who have stated there isn't a better cage on the market for an equally good price.

Some reviewers have left negative comments regarding the wire floors. While I agree that ferrets shouldn't be walking around on wires, I also have a problem with ferrets walking around on plastic. Two of my cages (including the Feisty) have wire floors, and two have plastic floors. But all of the cage floors, wired and plastic, as well as all the shelves and ramps in the four cages, I have covered with cage carpet. Call my ferrets spoiled if you'd like, but as many reviewers have said, "only the best" for my kids!

Considering sturdiness: I've had NO problems with the Feisty. If I needed a cage for my two collies, I think I would search for something sturdier. But my ferrets weigh a tremendous 1.5 lbs each and I've yet to see my Feisty cage sway or give the slightest in response to their war dances. I've found the cage to be quite durable for ferrets (my cat seems to think it's safe as well).

I clean my cages from top to bottom once per month (wash bedding and blankets weekly). In approximately twelve dis- and re-assemblies, NOTHING in the Feisty has broken. I realize the ramps are not the easiest features to remove and replace, but they certainly are not flimsy. The shelves also are very sturdy. One of my other cages (made by a very reputable manufacturer) has broken clips on two of the shelves and a broken ramp. Another of my cages (made by the same reputable manufacturer as the fore mentioned cage) has warped ramps, and that cage is newer and less frequently used than is my Feisty. Moreover, the large doors on both the upper and lower levels make cleaning the Feisty a breeze.

Considering access: of all the cages I have, the Feisty is the easiest to clean, the most convenient for changing food, water, and bedding, and the most versatile. Although my ferrets spend much of their time outside their cages, there are certain times they need to be caged. Anyone who's had ferrets for more than a few days knows they need regular stimulation, and one trick I've learned that keeps their little brains happy is frequently "changing up" the style of their cage(s). The Feisty serves that purpose beautifully. Although the only fixtures that come with the cage are the two shelves and the hammock, all of these can be rearranged to change the direction of my ferrets' movement in the cage and where they go to sleep. That's not as much an option with my other cages.

The Feisty has ample room for hanging lots of toys and "beds," and the floor space is fantastic. The cage is not too big and it's not too small. In addition, the color of it will fit almost ANY decor. It looks like a piece of formal furniture itself, whereas my other cages look more like playroom accessories.

I stated at the beginning of my review that I would have purchased a Ferret Nation if I'd had the money. I said that for a few reasons. First of all, it offers a bit more square footage and the option of adding a third level. Second, I like that each level has two openings that allow "complete" access to the inside of the cage. I honestly don't understand why this is not an option on the Feisty. It doesn't seem to me to be something that should increase the price more than a few bucks.

Finally, one major drawback to the feisty that the Ferret Nation overcomes is locking casters. My Feisty sits on a hard wood floor, so the only way to prevent it from moving if it gets bumped has been to place concave, rubber floor protectors beneath the casters. Unfortunately, that means lifting each caster off its corresponding protector every time I want to move the cage. Locking mechanisms that could be released with one's foot would be much easier. However, I don't believe there is another cage, comparable in both features and price, that holds a candle to the Ferret Feisty Home, not one that suits this ferret mama's fancy anyway!

The Best Out there 05/03/2008 - by Brandon Willis from Col, GA US
This cage is great. I just need an extention to put in a third level. I now have 6 ferrets. A little sugestion for the problem of the food and water holes. dont use them in that way. I have to admit i didnt think that is what they were for. I put the ramp as if the holes were for the ferrets to climb up and go threw the holes. They love that it is easy for them to climb because the angle of the ramp is not so steep. I have seen an extention before i just cant find it. It would be like the bottom section so that you could put it in the middle. But for the most part my ferrets and i love this cage. It did take me a while to put it together but i also started at 1 in the morning. The middle where you can separate them is great especialy if you have older ferrets that will take the others food you can feed them in there own section.
Great cage 03/13/2008 - by Joseph Sanders from Bell, CA US
My fuzzy buddies love this cage. I really like the fact that the passage from the lower level to the upper level has a door that can close to divide it into 2 cages, great thing to have if your ferrets are like mine and don't like each other.
Dont get too amped on this cage 01/18/2008 - by Rebecca from Chula Vista, CA US
I recently bought this cage for my two babies, Theodore and Sebastian. I read so many reviews on it and thought there was nothing better- until I brought it home and assembled it.

The material is crappy. It bends very easily and the over all assembly of the cage is cheap. The layout of it is nice, but for someone who believes in nothing but the best for her beasts it wasn't even close to worth it. The bars on the cage make it somewhat difficult to walk. The ladders are not very stable, nor is it real easy for the ferrets to get up- at least not for mine. The food and water "holes" are oddly placed, and there isn't enough room on the ledges for multiple ferrets to drink at one time. The doors are also very loose, which creates a lot of noise when they're begging to get out at 3 am. My babies spent about three hours in there before I took it apart and took it back.

I ended up buying the "Ferret Nation" cage, which is much more spacious. The price in pet stores is $229.99, but if you're smart you'll find it online and have it price matched. I've never been more satisfied. The cage is very strong and very spacious. It takes up a little more space than the Feisty Ferret Home, but is much more durable. The doors are sturdy and very secure, and each level has plastic trays [like in the Feisty Ferret Home] that make a smooth surface to walk on, thus leaving you worry free of your fuzzies feet getting stuck. The ladders are very stable, and the ledges, when centered, provide not only plenty of space for them to play and sleep, but plenty of room for them to move around underneath and on top of them. It also greatly conceals the litter box, so you don't have to look at it. ( woo! :D ) This cage is about 5' tall and can expand!

If you want an honest opinion, don't waste your money on the FFC.
Look No Further 12/24/2007 - by Taryn from Newport News, VA US
This cage is absolutely brilliant, wether you have one ferret or a family of ferrets. It is very easy to put together, as long as you have patience (it is a big cage after all), the cage itself is very well made and although the shelves are plastic, they are by no means cheap and nasty. There is plenty of room to hang beds, floor space for toys and lots of wall space for hanging items such as sleep-e-pockets. You will also wonder how you ever did without the shelf on the bottom. If you can look past the price long enough to hit *purchase* I can gaurantee you will not be sorry.
Still a good cage, but one problem 12/09/2007 - by Liz Ishler from Fairchild AFB, WA US
I bought this cage in February 07, and I still love it, but the ramps are VERY flimsy. They break where they connect to the floor. They snap in and are hard to get out. Thus breaking the taps and they are no longer usable. I have yet to find the replacement ramps on this site. So for now, my ferrets are climbing the cage and falling to get down. I am not happy about this. Perhaps they should sell replacement ramps if they sell this cage on their site. The overall build of the cage is great. But before you spend your money on this. Perhaps look for a cage in which you can replace the ramps if and when they break.

!!!!!ONLY CAGE YOU'LL EVER NEED!!!!!! 10/15/2007 - by cori wagar from davenport, IA US
this cage is fast and easy to clean. you could keep chincillas, ferrets, ginni pigs, or big rats in this cage. i was actuly going to get a ferret nation cage model#142, which basicly looks the same but it holds more ferrets,( has more room)but the stairs in that cage were bared like the cage and i read peoples respnds to the cage and the said the ferrets were getting their toes cought in the stairs some how, and actuly hanging by there toes screaming. litterly after 5 min. of getting in their new cage. the owners heard their ferrets screaming for their rescue. so thats what makes this cage better than model#142 ferret nation. if you love your pets this much to buy a cage like this than go the extra mile to make sure there safe in it. and also i have dogs that would love to eat my ferrets, and children that would let the ferrets out anytime, and this cage allows you to put locks on the doors. little key pad locks only. if you have any ferret questions email me cori.dave@yahoo.com
